“Our valued Patrons, Artists, Clients(Producers, Directors and Production Houses) and the General Public
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Management of the Uganda National Cultural Centre(UNCC), the Artists and Cultural Practitioners in Uganda, I would like to extend my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Uganda, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Information and National Guidance and our very own Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development(in charge of Labour and Culture issues) for the guidance to the Nation on curbing the spread of Corona Virus.
Considering the global COVID-19 pandemic, SAFETY BEING THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY AT THIS JUNCTURE and following the Government precautionary measures, as an Institution, we had to close and suspend ALL BOOKED SHOWS,EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS, ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES and REGULAR SHOWS including Jam Session, Comedy Night and the much anticipated WORLD THEATRE DAY/WEEK CELEBRATIONS that were scheduled UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Since our National Theatre Auditorium is closed for now, we intend to use our ONLINE PLATFORMS to keep delivering our mandate of PRESERVING, PROMOTING and DEVELOPING culture in Uganda
We shall use this opportunity to continue employing the Arts role of SENSITIZING, EDUCATING, INFORMING and ENTERTAINING SOCIETY this time round with more forcus on the fight against CORONA VIRUS and curbing its spread. We will use this opportunity to unite our Artists to fight against the Corona Virus with one message about health, safety and respect for human lives expressed in many voices through our digital platforms.
We express our Gratitude to all owners of Recreation Centres, Cultural Centres, Cinema Halls, Theatre Halls, Performing Art Schools and Exhibition Studios that heeded the call of the President and immediately closed their spaces. You exhibited responsibility and concern of the highest order.
